Antrim House ~ Built on Robert Hannah's
footwear empire
63 Boulcott Street, Wellington N.Z.
New Zealand is rich with many historic sites and buildings that embody
our nation's living heritage and contribute to our sense of national identity.
Right in the heart of Wellington is Antrim House, a prominent
landmark in what was once a predominantly residential central city street.
Its historic significance arises from its origins as the home of successful
businessman and founder of R Hannah & Co Ltd, Robert Hannah, his wife
Hannah and their family.
Since Robert's death in 1930, Antrim House has been home
to many people - as private hotel, public service hostel for young men
and now as the national headquarters for the New Zealand Historic Places
Trust Pouhere Taonga.
The
Historic Places Trust Pouhere Taonga is the leading agency for the
protection of sites and buildings in New Zealand that are of historic
and cultural significance to its peoples.
