Totara Estate:Venue for Hire

Totara Estate is currently available for a wide range of outdoor functions and events such as car club meetings, temporary exhibitions of machinery, or as the start/finish line for races in the Canterbury/Otago region.

Short meetings and catered meals are possible by arrangment, either in the Mueum, or outside in the picnic area on fine days.

The buildings and beautiful park-like grounds offer a picturesque rural setting for wedding or family photography, and for film shoots.

Totara Estate also welcomes group tours and school parties wishing to learn more about the history of New Zealand's meat industry, the role Totara played in meat exports, and heritage agricultural crafts such as buttermaking, hand milking, blade shearing and blacksmithing.

Capacity

Very spacious for outside events. Events and functions held inside the building are limited to 35. Winter functions are not recommended.

Facilities

Small kitchen facilities are available for inside events with domestic bench space, oven, zip, microwave, and refrigerator.

Wheelchair access is available to most buildings.

Tables, chairs, sun umbrellas, marquees etc are available for hire if required for outside events and functions.

Car parking is available on site (areas indicated).

Equipment

Where demonstrations of heritage agricultural crafts are offered, all materials will be supplied as part of your experience at Totara Estate. You may try your hand with these crafts & skills as is practicable within heath & safety guidelines. Children should be supervised at all times.

Please enquire about the availability of audio-visual equipment, whiteboard, flipchart paper and other stationery depending on your requirements. Hire charges will usually apply for these.

Catering

We work closely with a number of very experienced and professional catering companies who are familiar with the facilities available at Totara Estate. We would be delighted to assist you with arrangments for refreshments. Call the Property Manager to discuss your requirements.

You are welcome to make your own arrangements for catering, but we recommend strongly that your chosen caterer visits Totara Estate well before your event/function to view our facilities.
