Once Upon a Story!
New Zealand Historic Places Trust information release
9 January 2004
A workshop aimed at building and encouraging the art of storytelling is
to take place at Totara Estate next month. The focus will be on bringing
our history alive by using narrative to bind events and people.
It will be facilitated by Annette Knowler, current President of the New
Zealand Guild of Storytellers. "Done well, stories can be spellbinding",
says Annette. "They transport the listener to another time and place
and bring history alive in a vivid and meaningful way".
The workshop is to be hosted by Totara Estate on Saturday February 14th.
The Estate appears a more than fitting venue given its own proud history
and the many stories that surround its pioneer past.
"Storytelling's an essential part of our aim in helping to bring
the Estate's history alive" says Estate Manager Scott Elliffe. "We're
fortunate to have someone of Annette's skill and passion in the district.
It's a marvellous resource that we value greatly".
Workshop places are limited. See the Totara Estate Events
page for further details.
