Summer concert at Highwic

New Zealand Historic Places Trust Information Release
18 February 2008

One of Auckland's best-loved heritage buildings will host a summer concert on March 2 as part of the Auckland City Music in Parks series.

The concert will take place in the grounds at Highwic (40 Gillies Ave, Epsom)
- one of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust's flagship properties in Auckland - and will feature Riichi Yamauchi, Kenji Furutate and the Wai Taiko Japanese Drummers.

"The University of Waikato's Wai Taiko features the ancient Japanese drumming art Taiko, which has been used traditionally in temples, festivals and battles for thousands of years," says Highwic Property Manager Cheryl Laurie.

"At our concert, Wai Taiko will also be joined by professional drummers Kenji Furutate and Riichi Yamauchi who are both visiting artists from Japan. We're particularly lucky to have Riichi who is also a celebrated player of the three-stringed shamisen."

For a gold coin donation people can also explore the 145-year old building, and enjoy the live entertainment in the beautiful grounds.

Don't miss Riichi Yamauchi, Kenji Furutate and the Wai Taiko Japanese Drummers when they perform at Highwic on March 2, 3-5pm.
