Welcome to Historic Auckland, the website of the Auckland Branch Committee of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust Pouhere Taonga.

Inside Historic Auckland, you can explore our region's history, find places you can visit, and learn how we work to preserve the past, working closely with the NZHPT's Auckland-based staff. This site is dedicated to promoting historic heritage within the Auckland region.

About us

Auckland Branch Committee is elected by the NZHPT's membership in our geographic area.Elections are held every two years.

Branches work closely with the NZHPT's Area Managers, Area Coordinators and Heritage Advisers, and with the community, to raise awareness of heritage issues as well as provide opportunities for participation in heritage-related activities in their area. .

Regional Office

The Historic Places Trust's Mid-Northern Regional Office in Auckland is staffed by specialist advisers who are able to provide expert assistance on heritage conservation issues, including resource management, registration services, archaeology, Maori heritage as well as general information about the NZHPT's functions, services and activities. Office staff work closely with the local community as well as with local authorities, branch committees and other stakeholders.

The Regional Office serves the Northern region from Cape Reinga through to Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, the East Cape and Taupo. Two Area Offices are located in Kerikeri and Tauranga.

If you have an interest in our heritage and want to make a positive contribution to recognizing, protecting and promoting New Zealand’s historic places through the work of the Historic Places Trust we’d like to hear from you.

The NZHPT’s Auckland Branch is currently seeking members to join the committee.
The Branch Committee supports the work of the NZHPT in the region. The work is wide-ranging including educational and promotional events, membership recruitment and identifying and researching heritage places.
The membership of the Branch is made up of volunteers who are current NZHPT members, and the committee will be elected at its Annual General Meeting to be held at the NZHPT Northern Region Office, Premier Building, 2 Durham Street East, Auckland City at 6pm on August 11.
