Canterbury-West Coast Branch Committees: About Us
Canterbury Branch CommitteeThe Canterbury Branch Committee meets monthly at 5 pm on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Board Room of the Southern Regional Office, Gough House, Hereford St. The Branch works closely with the Area Co-ordinator and staff in the Regional Office to raise awareness of heritage issues within the region and provides a link between members of the Trust and the Trust Board. The Committee arranges talks, trips, walks and heritage events. Members of the Committee contribute to the work of the Trust in a variety of ways including research, advocacy, lobbying and public education. The committee is elected from Historic Places Trust members living within
Christchurch City, Banks Peninsula, Waimakariri, Hurunui and Selwyn Districts.
The Branch Committee has a number of sub-committees which meet as required.
You do not need to be a member of the Branch Committee to participate
in a sub-committee. Volunteers are always welcome. Ashburton Branch CommitteeThe Branch meets every second month, February to December on the second
Monday of the month at 7.30 pm in the Branch's rooms in Havelock Street.
The branch is elected from NZHPT members within the Ashburton District
Council area. Other projects include restoration of the Sexton's Hut at the Ashburton Cemetery, rescuing a World War II roadblock from the Rangitata River and setting it up in a nearby picnic area, and the installation of an interpretive panel on the Category I-registered Pipe Shed in Methven. Several buildings in the branch area have been registered, including two as Category I historic places - the Pipe Shed and the former Ashburton Glassworks. The branch is working with the Ashburton District Council on the revision
of the council's District Plan. South Canterbury Branch CommitteeThe branch meets every two months - on the second Thursday at 5.15pm, St Mary's Hall, Church Street, Timaru. The branch is elected from Historic Places Trust members living within Timaru, Waimate and Mackenzie District Council areas. The main projects at present time are
West Coast Branch CommitteeThe branch meets on the 3rd Monday evening of the month. Meetings alternate between Greymouth and Hokitika. The main projects that this Committee is working on are interpretation
at the former Kumara swimming pool and the registration of key sites.
