Board Elections 2012
The Heritage New Zealand Bill currently before the House - if passed – may result in all appointments to the Board being made by the Government. However, current regulations under the Historic Places Act 1993 remain in force and these require Board elections to be held every three years. Elections are due this year, and will be held on 23 May 2012.
The elections are conducted in accordance with Section 42(c) of the Historic Places Act 1993 and the Historic Places Trust Elections Regulations 1993. Elected Board members hold office for a term of three years.
One Board member from the membership is required to be elected by the members of the NZHPT from each of the Northern, Central, and Southern Regions. Elections are held by postal ballot.
Nominations
Nominations closed at 5.00 pm, Friday 13 April 2012.
Roll
All financial members of the NZHPT (at the time the Roll closes) are able to vote in these Elections. The Roll closed at 5.00 pm, Monday 23 April. It is held securely at the NZHPT's National Office in Wellington.
Voting papers
The elections are held by postal ballot. Voting papers including the ballot paper, candidate biographies and return envelope were mailed to members at the end of April, and must be completed and returned by 5.00pm, Wednesday 23 May 2012.
No voting is required in the Central and Southern regions because only one nomination for each region was received. Both candidates will be declared elected unopposed after Election Day.
Elections results will be published in major daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin on Saturday 9 June, and on the NZHPT’s website.
