Recent Registrations
The Register is the national schedule of New Zealand’s treasured heritage places. Anyone can apply to have a place or area considered for registration by completing a nomination form. If a nomination is progressed, a registration report is prepared to explain why a place or area is considered to be worthy of registration.
These reports are often provided to the public during the notification process. If the proposal is publicly notified, the NZHPT provides the public with an opportunity to comment or make submissions on proposals to include new items on the Register.
The final decision regarding registration for historic places and historic areas is made by the NZHPT Board. The Maori Heritage Council makes the final decision regarding registration for wahi tapu and wahi tapu areas. The Board and Maori Heritage Council consider proposals and any submissions received before making a decision on registration.
If registration is confirmed, the proposal is entered onto the Register and information on historic places and historic areas is made available on the Register Online.
If you have any questions regarding registration, please contact the Registrar. For information on registered wahi tapu and wahi tapu areas, please contact the Maori Heritage Registrations Coordinator.
