Visit Porirua, Paremata, Plimmerton and Pauatahanui,
guided by Roger Beauchamp. Meet at the Pataka Porirua
Museum of Arts and Cultures, by Harvey Norman in Porirua.
If you arrive at the museum at about 11.45 am you could
visit the museum (free admission) and have lunch at
their café (your cost).
At 1 pm the bus will leave the Pataka Museum and we
will then drive past The Gear Homestead, and the Papakowhai
Homestead to visit the site of the old Military Barracks
in the Ngati Toa Domain. There will be an opportunity
to walk around the site. We will then continue on to
Plimmerton and drive past the local marae and hear about
the history of Mana Island. We will continue up Grays
Road to Motukaraka Point and then descend to Pauatahanui
Village, where we will hear about the history of the
village and the Taylor Stace Cottage. We will visit
historic St Albans Church and Burial Ground, and
arrive back at Pataka via Whitby at approximately 3.30
pm.

In Memory Of a Great Artist Tchaikovsky piano
trio in A minor - played by The Auckland Trio Lumineux
- Andrea Mundy (cello), Joohae Kim (piano), and Pam
Jiang (violin).
This is the only piano trio Tchaikovsky wrote and dedicated
to his most important patron, Nikolai Rubinstein. It's
perhaps the longest - and best - piano trio conceived.
Admission: $7.50 adult, free for NZHPT

St Paul's. The band usually consists of Andrew London
(guitar), Terry Crayford (piano), Nils Olsen (saxophone,

Come along to the Auckland Branch Committee AGM. Guest
speaker, Phillip Hartley will speak about his work as
a building surveyor using examples of projects in the
UK in conparison to the New Zeland situation. Philip
is a chartered building surveyor with an MA in architectural
history and a postgraduate diploma in building conservation
currently working with Salmond Reed Architects Ltd.
The Annual General Meeting is due, with a great guest
speaker lined up - members will get a reminder in the
mail soon.
Branch Committee members are elected every 2 years
- this is an eletion year. Do give some thought to whether
you can help us look after Northland's heritage by joining
the Branch Committee. It's not too onerous, and provides
a great opportunity to get involved with historic heritage
in your home patch.
Auckland flautist Melody Lin will perform a concert
with pianist Sarah Watkins in Highwic's ballroom. Meoldy
is a doctoral student at uckland University School of
Music. She will play Chou Wen-Chung's Cursive, Tekemitsu's
Itinerant for Solo Flute and Prokofiev's Flute Sonata.
Admission: $10 adult, $5 for NZHPT members.

in Need: US Marines in NZ ~ Exhibition
Old

During
World War II, thousands of US Marines of the First and Second Divisions were stationed
in New Zealand to train for or to recuperate from the war in the Pacific. Many
came to Wellington's iconic Old St Paul's church where the United States and US
Marine Corps flags still hang in memory of them. A
Friend in Needexhibition
marks this significant time in New Zealand's history.

Need is about people, filled with bittersweet stories of
kindness, friendship, loss and strength of spirit in the face of
