New Zealand Historic Places Trust Appoints New Chief Exectutive
New Zealand Historic Places Trust Information release 12 April 2006
Dame
Anne Salmond, Chairman of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust said today: "I
am delighted to announce that Bruce Chapman has been appointed as Chief Executive
of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. As a lawyer, geographer and planner
who has held key roles in government and the private sector, Bruce is eminently
well qualified to head the Trust as the country's leading heritage agency". Bruce
Chapman began his career as a planner and policy advisor, working for the Ministry
of Works and Development. After a period with the Environment Directorate of the
OECD he returned to the Ministries of Energy and then Commerce, where he had responsibilities
for resources policy and the management of the Crown energy and mineral estates.
In 1992, Bruce moved to Carter Holt Harvey, where he was responsible for
corporate environmental policy including the management of heritage sites on company
land. Other roles with the company included Manager of the Penrose Recycled Paper
Mill, and Manager, Government Relations. Bruce has a personal interest in
heritage, and as a planner and lawyer, has extensive knowledge of the relevant
legislation. He is currently a councillor for Business New Zealand and was until
recently Chairman of the Environment and Energy Committee for the New Zealand
Forest Industries Council. His combination of professional, public and corporate
experience and expertise gives him a superb background for this position. Dame
Anne added, "The Trust aims to be a world-class heritage organisation, effective
and creative in promoting and protecting New Zealand's heritage of historic sites
and buildings. It will be a pleasure to work with Bruce and his team in achieving
this shared ambition". Contact for further information:
