Seminar a tribute to 'Our House'

New Zealand Historic Places Trust Information release
4 May 2006

The Auckland Branch Committee of the Historic Places Trust will be hosting a day-long seminar on July 1 2006 showcasing the importance of one of Auckland's most important architectural features - its heritage houses.

Entitled 'Domestic Matters: Understanding and Conserving our Homes' the seminar and workshop will provide the perfect opportunity for everyone with an interest in historically significant houses to learn more about them.

The seminar, which is one of the Trust's 50th anniversary events will include an exciting range of topics - including the development of the New Zealand Colonial House, houses of the modern movement, baches and other buildings that fall under the category of 'humble' heritage, along with basic principles of working sensitively with historic buildings. The seminar will also include a visual display exploring themes in selected work by The Group architects, who from the late 1940s have had a highly influential and continuing importance in New Zealand Architecture. As part of the seminar, there will also be a lecture on landscape projects associated with The Group.

This will certainly be an exciting and timely event with something to appeal to everybody. The seminar is open to all and is excellent value at $20 per person.

The seminar is to be held in The Maritime Room of the NZ National Maritime Museum, Quay St, Auckland City, from 9am until 5.30pm. Saturday 1 July 2006.
