This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. The following text is from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. Built 1885. Social/Historical Significance: Associations with the Linwood Borough Council, the only surviving building relating to the era of the Borough Council. Architectural Significance: An example of Maddison's work, a well known Christchurch architect.
